Published on: March 20, 2026The academic volume Bach und Wien has been published by Nomos in collaboration with the renowned Bach-Archiv Leipzig. The book is co-edited by Christine Blanken (Bach-Archiv Leipzig) and Marko Motnik (Institute of Musicology, ZRC SAZU).
The volume sheds light on the diverse pathways of the reception of Johann Sebastian Bach in Vienna and the wider Central European context—from his influence on composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schoenberg, to the networks connecting Berlin, Dresden, and Vienna, as well as the remarkable routes through which Bach’s works reached even the more remote regions of the Habsburg Monarchy. As part of the prestigious series Leipziger Beiträge zur Bach-Forschung, the volume represents a significant contribution to contemporary Bach scholarship and further strengthens the international visibility of the Institute of Musicology, ZRC SAZU.
