Critical Editions of Early Music

The series of critical editions of early music from the Slovenian national heritage Monumenta artis musicae Sloveniae celebrated in 2023 40 years of its existence. Publishing the heritage of early music associated with the geographical area of present-day Slovenia in a modern, practical and annotated form continues to be one of the main tasks of the Institute of Musicology ZRC SAZU. At the occasional meeting, some of the authors and editors spoke about the history and personal contribution to the creation of this collection and reflected on the importance and role, as well as current and future challenges of such editions. To ensure that the content of this publication is not forgotten, we offer it to readers in written form. This brochure is thus a unique reminder of the forty-year endeavour to preserve from oblivion and disseminate a musical past that has undoubtedly shaped, in its own way and over time, the cultural heritage of today's Slovenia and Europe in general.
